Med-Surg Lewis textbook

Just a reminder that since we aren't going to be using the Lewis textbook anymore that it is probably best if you sell it online ASAP. The best deals I have seen is selling it online to other people for around 60-70 dollars (before fees) or selling it directly to amazon.com for a 79 dollar amazon.com gift card (which I did).

I haven't checked the bookstore buyback prices but just giving everyone a heads up on other alternatives.

n4

okay, so i'm new to the whole blogging thing, but i just wanted to check in (just in case there's a chance) w/everyone about the possibility of switching n4 lecture to 1, 5-hour day as opposed to 2, 2.5 hour days. i know ms. wells says it probably won't happen, but i don't want to give up if there is any glimmer of hope... from the sounds of things, 67 out of 70 people were extremely interested in making this change. while i understand this makes for a longer day, for those of you who oppose this proposition, please consider your classmates. many of us have families, jobs, commute, etc. i recognize that we all made an investment in our future by deciding to pursue a degree/career in nursing, and at times, it seems like somewhat of a sacrifice. that being said, if there is any way to make things less challenging than they already are for the significant majority of the class, isn't it something to consider? i am not looking for an easy out or a lazy compromise, i just want to do what's best for the majority if it could make things less stressful in the long run. there is already enough stress and craziness with life, school, etc... why not try and simplify?? i truly believe it could positively effect my (and many other's) performance as a student, a nurse, and, most importantly, a human being! i know i'm a cheeseball and that i might be wasting my time. however, i needed to give it a shot so i don't feel like there was more i "could've done" to maintain my sanity. any thoughts??

APA and you

This semester is just flying by! One big project that's coming up is the paper each of us has to write towards the end of the semester. If anyone needs a crash course in APA formatting or just a quick review Delta is doing a workshop specifically for that:

April 12 – 16

  • MLA Formatting: Monday 2:00 – 3:30, Tuesday 2:30 - 4:00, Friday 9:30 - 11:00
  • APA Formatting: Wednesday 2:00 - 3:30, Thursday 11:00 - 12:30, Friday 12:00 - 1:30

MLA and APA are two of the most widely spread formatting styles for essays today. Unfortunately, MLA and APA are constantly evolving, and both were modified within the last year. This week's workshops offer the most recent information regarding both MLA and APA, while also reviewing some information from the previous versions that instructors seem to have continued using.

NOTE: ALL WORKSHOPS ARE PRESENTED IN HOLT 201C

Helpful Reminders

Just to remind people that tutoring is still available and might come in handy since our N-1 final is just around the corner (that was fast!). Here's the link just in case you've forgotten it:

We also have specified days for N-1/N-2 students looking to add more practice time in skills lab:

Hope everyone is doing well in all of their classes. Just a few more months and we can look forward to a nice summer vacation!

P.S. - I will be adding a new section on the right side of this blog for weird/abnormal stories and videos going on in medicine.

Welcome ADN Class of Fall 2011!

Hey all!!

Though a little late our class blog is finally up! My name is Henry On(henryon@yahoo.com) and I along with Luke Creasman(lrcreasman@yahoo.com) will be updating our class blog with information pertaining to nursing as well as nursing-related events going on at SJDC. While we're still deciding on what should be on our blog if anyone has any ideas, thoughts, or comments to help us out just shoot us an email or better yet tell us in person. So before this blog is "official" we still need a class photo. I'm going to bring my camera on Thursday, February 25 and hopefully we can get a quick photo shoot after theory. The two ADN cohort ahead of us did their picture with everyone in scrubs on the outside staircase at Locke so I'm hoping we can do the same. I will bring my camera to theory and snap up our class picture after lecture. Well that's about it so far, good luck with clinicals and see everyone on Thursday!
